The Southwest United Industries shot peen department utilizes five machines to meet a variety of customer requirements. Most parts are processed with a PLC driven computer-controlled machine featuring a multi-nozzle setup and an 84" x 48" x 20" working zone. Innovative fixtures and tools have expanded the machine's capabilities to include external peening of parts as large as 44" swing and 60" long. Internal diameters are peened with a rotary lance with 59" of travel. Two manual blast cabinets, with glass bead or steel media are also utilized. All air-blast machines loaded with steel media utilize electronic media flow controls to ensure consistent results.
Our newest shot peen machine features two 5HP wheels to propel steel media. Parts are fixtured to spindles in the ceiling of a dual-sided chamber where they index throught the blast stream for the prescribed exposure time. While one side of the chamber is being peened, the other side can be loaded with the next part for efficient processing.
Flap peening, both in-house and on-site, is available for small areas or large assemblies that require special consideration.
